Abscond [ əb’skɔnd ]
這個詞可能我們并不熟悉，它看上去有點像absent，又有點像second，那它到底代表什么意思呢？ 

如果你和朋友去下館子，因為飯菜不合意或錢包被盜等原因萌生“腳底抹油”之意，那就和abscond掛上鉤了，它表示“潛逃，逃亡，躲債”。 

Abscond源于拉丁語abscondere，其前綴ab（或abs）確實和absent有關，表示“離開，遠離”，而動詞condere則表示“放在一起，聚集（put together）”。

因此，abscond就表示“拿開，隱藏（put away，hide）”了。 

Abscond的本意是“（飛快逃離來）隱藏自己”，在17世紀有時也表示“把某物藏起來”。

1694年，Philip Falle在他的著作An account of the isle of Jersey中寫道：“The King ... was forced to abscond with great danger of his Person, till he found a passage 

into France。"這里的意思”逃亡，躲避”就和吃飯時逃避付帳非常接近了。
